Book Review: Hunger Games

I started reading Hunger Games last night. I finished it about 3am.

I plan to borrow the next two ASAP from the library, it was that good.

Katniss is a 14 year old girl living in District 12 (approximately Appalachia). She lives with her mother and little sister, Prim. They have to struggle to survive. Mom runs an apothecary, Katniss hunts (illegally) to put more food on their table, Prim has a goat. Each year, one boy and one girl from each District are chosen by lottery to be the “tribute” in the Hunger Games. The Games are all about survival and death: be the last one standing. It’s a punishment for the Districts to remind them that rebellion is bad.

I don’t want to give the story away, but it is a great book. I didn’t want to go to bed before I finished it.

If you like young adult fiction, a page turner, a character that you care about, and don’t mind some gory deaths, this is a wonderful book to read.
