Numbers, Moving, and 36 Things Every 21st Century Teacher Should Know

Figuring out summer reading is complicated. We asked students what books they wanted out of a list of twelve (ish), ordered copies before everything was in (needed to get that money spent before it went away), and now are trying to figure out how we ordered 25 copies of one book, only have 5, and really only need 10. It became a complex Google Spreadsheet so that three of us could work on it at one time, complete with color coding! Either way, we have 50 copies of Fight Club, and actually need all 50 of them. The other books will sort themselves out over the next week or so as they make their way to us and calls are made to Barnes & Noble trying to find out where the other copies of Witches: The Absolutely True Tale of Disaster in Salem are.

Meanwhile, the move is full steam ahead. I’ll be going out to Springfield on Sat the 1st to sign the lease and probably will be bringing cleaning supplies with me to clean at least the kitchen and bathroom. I’m still waiting on some paperwork from my new job, but that’s OK.  It takes a while to process, I know. And I have booked the movers! Now to get everything into those boxes.

I stumbled across a great article called 36 Things Every 21st Century Teacher Should Be Able To DoThere is a lot of information to process, but it is a good checklist. One of them is blogging (yay!). Meanwhile, I know I don’t have the time to manage my Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and blog, as well as my Paper.li, my Scoop.it, my Prezi, Nearpod, Socrative, and Google+ accounts. I just can’t. So some things get forgotten as I add on new things (have you seen Reddit? I could lose days clicking from one thing to the next… which is exactly why I don’t go on it).

I’m really very excited about fall. I’m nervous, but in a good way. I’m looking forward to meeting more teachers and the administrators. I’m actually looking forward to department meetings. I even have a Professional Development that I want to go to in August already, even though I can’t sign up yet!

But for now, finishing Maze Runner before I have to give it back to the library.
